The Logistics Officer will be responsible for coordinating requisitioning, ensuring timely delivery of commodities, managing vendor contracts, and gathering market intelligence to support vendor selection. This position requires a proactive approach to managing operational issues and providing solutions to ensure excellent client service. The officer will also prepare and monitor budgets, oversee inventory management, and ensure the integrity of commodity accounting data. The role includes comprehensive analysis of operational pipelines and participation in emergency preparedness activities, making it essential for the successful execution of logistics operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide specialized support to logistics operations and activities, ensuring effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
Coordinate requisitioning and ensure timely delivery of commodities and supplies to authorized partners and destinations.
Manage logistics vendors’ contracting activities, including performance monitoring and analysis.
Gather market intelligence and coordinate vendor assessments to support the vendor selection process.
Address complex operational issues and provide recommendations to ensure timely resolutions.
Prepare, monitor, and revise budgets for all delivery modalities, ensuring compliance with corporate standards.
Monitor inventory management processes and track inventory status from source to beneficiary.
Ensure the quality and integrity of commodity accounting data.
Analyze operational pipelines and contribute to assessments and operational planning. 1
Manage documentation processing for logistics operations, addressing issues and recommending process improvements. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary school education and possess a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area. Additionally, candidates should have seven or more years of progressively responsible work experience in logistics or supply chain management, with a strong background in general administrative work. Knowledge of logistics operations, vendor management, and budget preparation is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to manage complex operational issues effectively.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in a relevant functional area is also required, which indicates a foundational understanding of logistics and supply chain management principles.
Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in logistics or supply chain management. This experience should include coordinating with transportation providers, leading teams, and assisting in project management. Familiarity with budget management and operational analysis is also important for this role.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station (English) is mandatory. Proficiency in the local language, if different, is also required to facilitate effective communication within the region.
Additional Notes: This position is a Fixed Term, Full Time role with a duration of 12 months, eligible for extension based on satisfactory performance and operational requirements. The duty station is Bridgetown, Barbados, and the selected candidate may be required to travel regionally and internationally for missions, training, and emergency responses. Full medical clearance will be necessary for travel.
