Job Overview:
The Communications Associate position is crucial for supporting all Operational Information Management and Performance Reporting (OIM & PR) activities within the WFP Caribbean Multi-Country Office (MCO). This role is designed to contribute to the establishment and presentation of a standard operating picture of the WFP program portfolio and associated results, facilitating informed and timely decision-making at all organizational levels. The incumbent will supervise the Communications Associate to implement the communications plan effectively. The position is based in Bridgetown, Barbados, and reports to the Head of the Communications, Marketing, and Advocacy/Partnerships Unit. The unit plays a vital role in promoting WFP’s work in alignment with the goals outlined in WFP’s Country Strategic Plan (2022-27). The role involves implementing the communications strategy through various activities, including social media management, content creation, media relations, and branding, ensuring that WFP's visibility and reputation are maintained and enhanced.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key accountabilities for the Communications Associate include: contributing to the implementation of the country communications strategy and project communication work plans; developing high-quality information products for print and electronic platforms, such as newsletters, briefs, and fact sheets; collecting audiovisual content and writing human interest stories to showcase WFP’s work; providing specialized support and coordination for the efficient production of multimedia products; generating donor-specific visibility content for online platforms; preparing drafts of press releases, speeches, and key messages; organizing visibility events in collaboration with external stakeholders; liaising with local and international media outlets to enhance WFP’s visibility; developing engaging social media content and managing the WFP Twitter account; monitoring and analyzing media to inform communication strategies; supporting capacity building of WFP staff in communication; and contributing to corporate branding and marking plans. The role may also require supporting emergency response activities and working beyond regular hours as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess excellent writing skills in English, with a proven track record in communications, including experience in writing press releases, human interest stories, and social media content. The ability to organize visibility events and engage with local media is essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills and techniques in media, social media, campaigns, and content production. Problem-solving and analytical skills are necessary, along with the ability to work under pressure and as part of a team. Familiarity with the political, social, and economic context of Barbados is also important.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in Journalism, International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be accepted. Candidates should have a strong educational foundation that supports their ability to perform effectively in this role.

Experience:
A minimum of one year of postgraduate professional experience is required for this position. Additional years of relevant professional work experience in communications-related fields are desirable. Candidates should have a solid background that demonstrates their capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English (level C) is mandatory. If the duty station's language differs from English, proficiency in that language is also required. Knowledge of videography and graphic design capabilities is considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This is a fixed-term, full-time position with a contract duration of 12 months, eligible for extension based on satisfactory performance and operational requirements. The duty station is Bridgetown, Barbados, and the selected candidate may be required to travel regionally and internationally to support missions, emergency responses, and training. Full medical clearance will be necessary for travel. The position is open to nationals of Barbados and CARICOM member states and associate members. A CARICOM Skilled National Certificate is a prerequisite for candidates not from Barbados.
