Job Overview: The Field Support Assistant – NRM (Natural Resource Management) & DRM (Disaster Risk Management) is a critical role within the FAO's emergency response program in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about environmental sustainability and disaster risk management. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing activities related to natural resource management and disaster risk reduction, acting as a frontline worker who engages directly with communities. The role requires a holistic understanding of FAO's activities in the region, ensuring that all interventions are aligned with the organization's objectives and contribute to the resilience of both refugees and host communities. The Field Support Assistant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government partners, UN agencies, and civil society, to facilitate community engagement and support the implementation of climate-resilient solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Field Support Assistant will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: facilitating field-level activities related to natural resource management and disaster risk reduction; mobilizing and forming community groups; organizing community consultations; gathering baseline information; identifying key stakeholders; supporting training and capacity-building activities; monitoring project activities through data collection; preparing periodic reports; contributing to the development of distribution plans; facilitating the distribution of materials to beneficiaries; supporting climate-resilient land rehabilitation; collecting and tracking nursery information; organizing donor visits; monitoring project impacts; representing FAO in coordination forums; informing beneficiaries about accountability mechanisms; and performing other related activities as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in forestry, Environmental Science, Agroforestry, Zoology, Disaster Management, Geography, or a related discipline. Additionally, a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in program or project implementation, quality assurance, monitoring, and reporting is required. A working knowledge of English is essential, and candidates must be nationals of Bangladesh.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as forestry, Environmental Science, Agroforestry, Zoology, Disaster Management, or Geography. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of natural resource management and disaster risk management in the context of the Rohingya crisis.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience. This experience should ideally include supporting program and project implementation, ensuring quality assurance, and engaging in monitoring and reporting activities. Familiarity with the specific challenges faced in disaster-prone areas and refugee contexts will be advantageous.
Languages: A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Familiarity with local dialects will be considered an added advantage, as it can enhance communication with community members and stakeholders.
