Job Overview: The consultant position at WFP Kenya is crucial for providing strategic support in advocacy, partnership development, and resource mobilization. The role is designed to enhance WFP's engagement with traditional donors and to develop strategic partnerships that align with the organization's objectives. The consultant will be responsible for leading the design and execution of donor engagement plans, preparing high-level funding proposals, and ensuring compliance with visibility and communication obligations. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying resource mobilization opportunities and fostering relationships with both private and government sectors. The consultant will also play a key role in capacity building within the team, providing guidance and support to junior staff, and ensuring that the partnerships unit operates effectively during the absence of its head. This role is integral to WFP's mission of delivering effective humanitarian assistance and achieving long-term food security for vulnerable populations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
Portfolio Management: Lead the design and execution of engagement plans for over 20 traditional donors, ensuring high-quality stewardship and proactive outreach.
Proposal Development: Prepare and deliver funding proposals, briefings, and reports that align with WFP Kenya’s priorities.
Donor Reporting: Oversee the preparation of accurate, results-based donor reports in collaboration with various departments.
Partnership Development: Coordinate strategic segments of donor relations work, focusing on private sector and government engagement.
Resource Mobilization: Identify and propose strategic opportunities for resource mobilization, nurturing trust in WFP's work.
Capacity Building: Provide coaching and training to junior staff to enhance their skills and performance.
Crisis Response: Lead efforts in humanitarian crises, ensuring effective resource mobilization and coordination.
Event Support: Assist in the preparation and execution of joint events to advance WFP's interests.
Compliance: Ensure partner visibility and compliance with agreements, incorporating gender perspectives in all work areas.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in fields such as Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications, or Social Sciences. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional relevant work experience may be considered. The role requires a strong understanding of government and corporate strategies, experience in developing multi-stakeholder partnerships, and a proven track record in resource mobilization processes. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to analyze partner intelligence and develop engagement strategies effectively.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree is required for this position, preferably in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications, or Social Sciences. A first university degree combined with relevant work experience may also be acceptable. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of international humanitarian development and partnership dynamics.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of six years of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field, with a strong background in international humanitarian development. Experience working within or in connection with a UN system organization is desirable, as is prior experience in developing countries. Candidates should have a history of developing partnerships and resource mobilization strategies, as well as experience in managing high-pressure situations during crises.
Languages: Proficiency in written and oral English is essential for this position. While English is the mandatory language, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders and partners.
