Job Overview: The Driver position at the OHCHR Kenya Country Office involves providing safe and reliable transportation services for authorized personnel. The incumbent will be responsible for driving vehicles, ensuring their maintenance, and assisting with logistical tasks such as the collection and delivery of mail and documents. The role requires a strong understanding of driving regulations and safety protocols, as well as the ability to maintain a high level of professionalism while interacting with clients and colleagues. The Driver will also support the administrative unit by assisting with data collection and analysis, contributing to the preparation of reports and presentations, and updating information materials. This position is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of the office and facilitating the movement of personnel and materials as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
Safely drive vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, ensuring adherence to all traffic rules and regulations.
Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as required.
Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.
Perform day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires; perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs as necessary.
Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities.
Ensure compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents.
Assist with data collection and analysis, and prepare presentations and reports for information sharing and decision-making.
Support the updating of information materials such as web pages or brochures.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid category B and C driver’s license and have completed driver training. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and professionalism, with a good understanding of driving regulations and the local road conditions. Additionally, candidates should exhibit strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as a client-oriented approach to service delivery.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates should have completed driver training and possess a valid category B and C driver’s license, demonstrating their capability to operate various types of vehicles safely and efficiently.
Experience: A minimum of one year of experience as a driver providing driving services with a safe driving record is required. Candidates should have experience driving a variety of vehicles, including vans and other motorized vehicles. Experience working as a professional driver with an international organization, such as the United Nations, is highly desirable. Familiarity with vehicle maintenance practices is also beneficial.
Languages: English is the mandatory working language for this position, and candidates must demonstrate proficiency at UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Kiswahili is considered a desirable language, with proficiency at UN Level I being advantageous. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages to facilitate interactions with clients and colleagues.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and applicants must be authorized to work for the United Nations in the duty station where the position is located. Candidates selected from outside the duty station will be responsible for their relocation expenses.
