Job Overview: The consultant will play a pivotal role in leading WFP's strategic efforts in resource mobilization, advocacy, and partnership development. This position is crucial for enhancing WFP's engagement with national governments, international financial institutions, and emerging donors, thereby diversifying funding sources and strengthening WFP's position within the development sector. The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive Resource Mobilization Strategy aligned with WFP's Country Strategic Plan in Kenya. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying new partnership opportunities and fostering relationships with key stakeholders to support WFP's mission of achieving Zero Hunger. The consultant will also coordinate strategic outreach efforts and ensure that WFP's objectives are effectively communicated to potential partners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead engagement with a diverse range of partners, focusing on international financial institutions and emerging government donors.
Co-develop and implement a Resource Mobilization Strategy in alignment with WFP’s Country Strategic Plan.
Collaborate with Global Headquarters to explore innovative financing opportunities related to climate initiatives.
Strengthen UN inter-agency collaboration and identify joint resource mobilization opportunities.
Conduct thorough scans of the development landscape to identify potential partners, including private foundations and regional organizations.
Coordinate and implement strategic segments of the partnerships work plan, focusing on government donor engagement.
Manage partnership pipelines and maintain up-to-date donor intelligence for informed decision-making.
Work with functional units to create coordinated outreach plans for partner engagement.
Identify strategic opportunities for engagement with external partners and guide functional units on partnership strategies. 1
Serve as a liaison between technical teams and leadership to ensure consistent messaging and readiness for strategic engagements. 1
Alternatively, a First University degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training.
A minimum of seven years of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field, particularly in international humanitarian development.
Experience working within or in connection with a UN system organization or in the humanitarian sector is desirable.
Proven experience in developing multi-stakeholder partnerships and resource mobilization processes.
Strong negotiation skills and experience in providing resourcing advice to senior management.
Ability to gather and analyze partner intelligence to develop engagement strategies.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, Communications, or Social Sciences. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training may be acceptable. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in the principles of development and humanitarian assistance, as well as skills in communication and partnership building.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field. Candidates should have a background and interest in international humanitarian development, with prior experience in the UN system or humanitarian sector being highly regarded. Experience in developing countries and familiarity with resource mobilization processes are essential for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is essential for this position. Knowledge of another UN working language is considered an advantage, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
