Job Overview: The Digital Inclusion Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the IRC’s Digital Inclusion initiatives, working under the supervision of the Education & Training Program Manager and the Emerging Tech Coordinator. This position is focused on enhancing equitable access to technology and strengthening essential digital skills among community stakeholders in San Diego. The specialist acts as the office’s Digital Navigator, utilizing the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) Digital Navigator framework to assist clients in accessing digital resources, including digital literacy training, low-cost computer programs, and affordable internet connectivity options. Additionally, the role involves distributing technology devices to households in IRC programs and contributing to the development and maintenance of relevant digital literacy resources and materials. The specialist is expected to engage with clients, assess their needs, and provide tailored support to foster digital skills that are vital for daily activities, employment opportunities, and long-term self-sufficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Digital Inclusion Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including conducting intake screening calls with prospective clients, determining program eligibility, and providing timely follow-up with clients. The specialist will administer client pre- and post-assessments, deliver digital skills education workshops, and offer one-on-one digital coaching and support services. They will facilitate digital skills development through individual sessions, workshops, and cohort-based training, collaborating with community partners to refine the Digital Literacy training series based on community needs. The specialist will also develop in-language instructional videos and digital literacy materials, distribute and track technology devices allocated to program participants, and maintain accurate client records for reporting purposes. Participation in program meetings, staff training, and ongoing program evaluation activities is also required, along with adherence to IRC policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Digital Inclusion Specialist position should possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Communications, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Education, Social Work, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience. A minimum of 1 year of experience in the nonprofit sector is strongly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate strong familiarity with digital literacy, digital inclusion, and technology access initiatives, along with at least 1 year of experience in instruction or coaching. Experience with data tracking and reporting, including managing case management records using a CRM system, is also required. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching and supporting adults, with the patience and commitment necessary to assist non-technical individuals in overcoming digital barriers.

The compensation for this position ranges from $24.00 to $26.78 per hour, with the exact offer being calibrated based on work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
