The role is full-time and in-person at the UN Headquarters in New York, with a duration of six months. Interns will work under the supervision of a Public Information Officer and will be expected to contribute to the daily operations of the Outreach Programmes team, assisting in research, content creation, event planning, and general office support.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including: conducting research on thematic issues related to human rights, genocide, and international affairs; drafting, formatting, editing, and posting original content for the UN website, including news stories and multimedia elements; creating social media content to promote outreach initiatives; assisting in the planning and organization of outreach events, which includes researching potential speakers, preparing invitations, and developing promotional materials; providing general office support as needed; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervising staff member. This role requires a proactive approach and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate program in human rights, international relations, history, Holocaust studies, communications, media studies, or a related field; be in the final year of a first university degree program in the aforementioned fields; or have graduated with a relevant university degree. While professional work experience is not required, a strong academic background in a related field is essential. Skills in research, writing, social media, graphic design, and multimedia production are highly desirable and will enhance the candidate's application.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a degree or be enrolled in a degree program that is closely related to the internship's focus areas. This includes fields such as human rights, international relations, history, Holocaust studies, communications, and media studies. A second university degree or equivalent is preferred, but candidates in their final year of undergraduate studies may also apply.
