Job Overview:
The MedEvac Liaison Focal Point will play a crucial role in the implementation of the Medevac Project led by the WHO Jordan Country Office. This project aims to support the transfer, reception, and treatment of critically ill patients, particularly children, from Gaza to Jordan. The position involves coordinating various operational layers, including medical treatment in contracted hospitals, accommodation management for patients and their companions, logistics and transport coordination, and ongoing clinical follow-up. The MedEvac Liaison Focal Point will serve as the primary contact point for evacuated patients and their companions, ensuring they receive timely and well-coordinated services throughout their stay in Jordan. This role requires effective communication and coordination among multiple stakeholders, including WHO, hospitals, and accommodation providers, to facilitate a smooth patient journey from arrival to discharge or return.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Patient and Companion Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for evacuated patients and their companions, ensuring they are informed about their care plans, appointments, and available services. Address any questions or concerns promptly and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Coordination: Serve as the operational link between WHO, contracted hospitals, and accommodation management, ensuring smooth information flow and timely resolution of coordination issues. Follow up on appointment schedules and admission plans, and relay relevant information to the WHO project team.
  • Medical Records and Documentation: Maintain complete and updated patient medical records, collect medical reports and discharge summaries, and share regular updates with the WHO team.
  • Appointment Coordination: Schedule and follow up on all medical appointments and procedures in coordination with the contracted hospital, tracking and resolving any delays or scheduling issues.
  • Accompaniment and Field Support: Accompany patients to all medical visits and procedures, facilitating communication between patients and healthcare providers.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced environment, as well as a commitment to accountability and professionalism. Experience in healthcare coordination or patient liaison roles is highly desirable, along with a strong understanding of medical terminology and processes. The candidate should also be culturally sensitive and able to respect and promote individual differences.

Educational Background:
A degree in health sciences, social sciences, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in healthcare management, patient advocacy, or related areas would be advantageous. Candidates with relevant academic qualifications and practical experience in healthcare settings will be prioritized.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in healthcare coordination, patient liaison, or a similar role. Experience working with international organizations or in emergency health contexts is a plus. The ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure is essential, as well as experience in liaising with various stakeholders in a healthcare setting.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory, as both languages are essential for effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the patient population being served.

Additional Notes:
This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Amman, Jordan. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The role offers a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of JOD 916.06, along with annual and learning leaves, free medical and life insurance, and access to various learning platforms. The living conditions in Amman are favorable, with a peaceful environment and accessible services. The city is well-equipped with amenities, and the cost of living has increased in recent years, so candidates should be prepared for this.
