Job Overview:
This internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to support the Land, Housing and Informal Settlements Section (LHIS) within the Urban Practices Branch of the Global Solutions Division at UN-Habitat. The LHIS is responsible for developing norms and standards in various areas including land management, housing, and informal settlements. The intern will assist in various tasks such as data collection, literature review, and analysis related to housing and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">human security issues. The role involves supporting the development of knowledge materials, managing the Housing Knowledge Platform, and engaging in research and mapping activities relevant to housing policies. The intern will work under the co-supervision of the Programme Management Officer and the Chief of the LHIS, contributing to the overarching goal of ensuring adequate housing for all.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities including: supporting data collection and analysis on housing and forced evictions; assisting in organizing and documenting events related to housing and human security; developing and managing knowledge materials; conducting research on relevant topics; tracking partner housing policies; providing research support for concept notes and proposals; contributing to communication and advocacy initiatives; and performing other related tasks as assigned. These responsibilities are aimed at enhancing the intern's understanding of urban development and housing issues while contributing to UN-Habitat's mission.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program, be in the final year of a first university degree program, or have graduated with a relevant degree. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, is required. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in the work of the United Nations and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. A background in Housing Studies, Urban Development, Human Security, or related social sciences is preferred. While professional experience is not required, a relevant field of study is essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a relevant academic program, such as a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in fields related to housing, urban development, or social sciences. Proof of enrollment or graduation must be provided with the application. Knowledge of urban development, land management, and housing policy is also required for this position.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not mandatory for this internship, applicants should have a strong academic background in a field closely related to the internship. This could include coursework or projects that demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to housing and urban development.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is desirable but not mandatory. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, and proficiency in these languages will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the team.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and is expected to last for a maximum of six months. Interns are required to work full-time, five days a week, under the supervision of a staff member. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of Kenya may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
