Job Overview:
The Chef-fe d’atelier is responsible for the daily technical and operational management of the workshop, ensuring the quality of the reconditioning processes, the proper organization of activities, and the smooth operation of the workshop. This role is crucial in overseeing the activities of volunteers who dismantle used prosthetics, clean, recondition, and store components until they are shipped to partner centers in Africa and Asia. The position requires a commitment to fostering a positive environment where each volunteer can contribute according to their skills, ensuring that the workshop operates efficiently and effectively while adhering to the standards set by HI.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operational Management of the Workshop: Organize and coordinate daily activities, supervise volunteers during sessions, ensure proper task distribution and adherence to technical guidelines, and maintain the workshop's organization, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Quality Assurance: Enforce the reconditioning process defined by HI, implement hygiene and safety standards, conduct initial sorting of recyclable donations, ensure quality control of reconditionable prosthetic components, and contribute to the continuous improvement of reconditioning processes.
  • Logistics Process Compliance: Prepare physical orders of components, manage stock (incoming, outgoing, and organization), update stock records and tracking tools, participate in annual inventory, ensure equipment functionality, and identify needs for consumables and materials.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to enhancing practices and organization within the workshop.
  • Management: Facilitate working sessions with volunteers, promote teamwork and a collaborative environment, and share best technical and organizational practices.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a background in orthotics or a degree in Mechanics and Industry, along with experience in orthopedic prosthetics or medical devices. Experience in operational team management (volunteers or technicians) is essential, as well as experience in workshop or production management in a technical environment, with knowledge of sorting, reconditioning, and quality control processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, and candidates should demonstrate autonomy and practical sense.

Educational Background:
Candidates should ideally possess a qualification in orthotics or a relevant degree in Mechanics and Industry. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of the role and ensuring effective management of the workshop's operations.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in operational management, particularly in environments involving workshops, production, or technical processes. Experience in managing teams, whether volunteers or technicians, is highly valued, as is familiarity with the processes of sorting, reconditioning, and quality control in a workshop setting.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as the role requires effective communication with volunteers and adherence to organizational standards. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not required.

  • The commitment required is 1 to 2 days per week, and the role is expected to start on June 15, 2026, with a duration of 18 months.
