Job Overview:
The position of Curriculum Development Specialist involves the design and development of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) curricula that align with the standards of the Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council. The role is crucial in supporting skills development and community empowerment, targeting certification programs in various fields such as Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation, Strategic Management and Leadership, and Communication. The specialist will be responsible for creating market-relevant training programs that equip grassroots community members with the necessary skills for employment and entrepreneurship, thereby enhancing their self-reliance and quality of life.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop competency-based curricula that meet the standards of the Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council.
  • Define competency units, learning outcomes, and performance criteria for each training program.
  • Prepare comprehensive training manuals, learner guides, and facilitator guides to support the delivery of the training programs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that the curricula are relevant to the local job market and community needs.
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify skills gaps and training requirements within the community.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the training programs and make necessary adjustments based on feedback and outcomes.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops as needed to support the implementation of the curricula.
  • Stay updated on best practices in curriculum development and training methodologies to ensure high-quality educational offerings.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, particularly in competency-based education and training.
  • Strong understanding of the Curriculum Development Assessment and Certification Council standards.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, educators, and industry representatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess community needs and develop appropriate training solutions.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Adult Education, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Additional certifications in project management or training and development would be advantageous.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in curriculum development and training program design, preferably in a community development or educational setting. Experience working with marginalized communities and understanding their unique challenges is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Swahili or other local languages is considered an asset and would enhance communication with community members.
