Job Overview:
The role of the Graphic Design Online Volunteer is crucial in producing a wide range of communication materials that support UNDP's ongoing programs and public information campaigns in Malawi. The volunteer will work under the guidance of the Communications Team and the Public Knowledge function to create visually appealing and impactful graphic materials. This includes designing posters, flyers, brochures, infographics, and presentations that effectively communicate the results and outputs of various programs. The volunteer will collaborate with different program teams to visualize their concepts and translate complex information into clear, compelling communication products. The ultimate goal is to enhance the visibility of UNDP's development work in Malawi and ensure that the communication materials are accessible and engaging for the public.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Designing and laying out graphic materials such as posters, flyers, brochures, infographics, fact sheets, illustrations, PowerPoint templates, maps, and document layouts for reports and briefs.
  • Collaborating with program teams to visualize their concepts and results, translating technical information into clear visual communication products.
  • Supporting teams in structuring data and stories into infographics and visual summaries.
  • Ensuring all products adhere to UNDP corporate branding guidelines, maintaining consistent typography, color schemes, and layout standards.
  • Developing design drafts and refining them based on feedback from the Communications Team and program focal points.
  • Delivering both print-ready and digital-optimized formats of the final products.
  • Preparing 10-15 finalized graphic products depending on office priorities, including bilingual versions where applicable.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position should possess strong graphic design skills and experience in creating visually compelling communication materials. Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and PowerPoint is essential. The candidate should also have a good understanding of branding and visual identity principles, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex information into engaging visuals are critical for success in this role. Additionally, the candidate should be open to feedback and willing to iterate on designs to meet the needs of the organization.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have formal education or training in design principles, typography, color theory, and layout design. A portfolio showcasing previous design work will be beneficial in demonstrating the candidate's skills and experience.

Experience:
While specific years of experience may not be required, candidates should have a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality graphic design work. Experience in a volunteer or internship capacity within a similar role or organization will be advantageous. Languages:
