Job Overview: The Online Volunteer position is designed to support UNDP Malawi's integration of multimedia communication into its public information strategy. The role involves creating and enhancing animated content that visualizes development work in various thematic areas such as governance, resilience, innovation, and climate action. Volunteers will work under the supervision of the Communications Team and collaborate with programme focal points to produce engaging animated videos that effectively communicate complex development concepts in a visually compelling manner. This position is an opportunity to contribute to UNDP's mission while gaining valuable experience in animation and motion graphics production.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be responsible for several key tasks: A. Animation & Motion Graphics Production: Creating short animated videos (1–4 minutes) for various platforms, developing motion graphics and visual storytelling elements, and integrating branding elements. B. Enhancement of Existing Videos: Reviewing and recommending improvements for existing video content, refining motion graphics and layout, and ensuring narrative cohesion. C. Voiceover, Audio & Narrative Integration: Adding subtitles, sound effects, and syncing voiceovers, as well as integrating scripts and storytelling elements. D. Collaboration with Programme Teams: Working with teams to translate complex concepts into animations, conceptualizing scripts and storyboards, and offering creative input. E. Outputs & File Management: Delivering final animations in required formats, submitting editable project files, and incorporating feedback for revisions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong skills in animation and motion graphics production, with proficiency in software such as Adobe After Effects, Illustrator, and Premiere. A good understanding of visual storytelling and branding principles is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Experience in producing content for social media and public outreach is highly desirable.
Educational Background: A background in graphic design, animation, multimedia communication, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of design principles and experience in creating animated content.
Experience: While prior experience in animation and motion graphics is beneficial, it is not strictly required. However, candidates should demonstrate a portfolio of relevant work that showcases their skills and creativity in producing animated content.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communication and content will be in English. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position, and as such, it does not offer monetary compensation. The role is designed to provide valuable experience and contribute to UNDP's mission. The duration of the assignment is flexible, and volunteers are expected to deliver a set number of animated videos and related content as outlined in the deliverables.
