Job Overview:
The Early Childhood Development Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the welfare and safety of infants, toddlers, and children under the age of
  • This position is designed to support the development of children while their parents engage in integrated English language instruction and receive resettlement and economic empowerment services. The assistant will be responsible for creating a safe and nurturing environment during child-watch activities, which will occur at the IRC office or other designated venues where parents are present. The role requires a proactive approach to engaging with children and delivering age-appropriate activities that foster their development. The assistant will also work closely with parents, providing support and guidance as needed, and will be expected to maintain a clean and safe physical environment for the children.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Early Childhood Development Assistant include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing a safe and supportive environment for infants, toddlers, and children participating in the program, ensuring their welfare and safety at all times.
  • Actively engaging with children through age-appropriate activities and lessons that promote their development.
  • Maintaining a clean and sanitary physical environment for children, including daily set-up and clean-up activities.
  • Overseeing and delegating tasks to community volunteers who assist with childcare.
  • In emergency situations, effectively engaging parents and emergency services as appropriate to ensure the safety of all children.
  • Collaborating with parents to support their involvement in their children's learning and development.
  • Adapting activities and approaches to meet the diverse needs of immigrant and refugee families.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Early Childhood Development Assistant position include:
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid for children or the ability to attain certification following hire.
  • Prior childcare experience is required, with professional experience in early childhood education preferred.
  • Experience working with immigrants or refugees is preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills and competencies, including fluency in English and the ability to speak a language relevant to the current client population being served.
  • A caring and compassionate attitude when interacting with children, along with enthusiasm for early childhood education and English language learning.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma or equivalent. Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of early childhood development principles and practices, which can be gained through formal education or relevant work experience in childcare or early childhood education settings.

Experience:
Candidates for the Early Childhood Development Assistant position should have prior childcare experience, with a preference for those who have professional experience in early childhood education.
