Job Overview:
The Officer, Sustainer Retention is a vital role within the IRC's External Relations team, focusing on the strategy and execution of the organization's donor program aimed at sustaining monthly, quarterly, and annual contributions. This position is projected to raise over $20 million annually from more than 50,000 recurring supporters. The Officer will work closely with various teams, including analytics, MarTech, and external vendors, to implement and optimize donor journeys across multiple channels such as email, SMS, direct mail, and telemarketing. The role emphasizes deepening donor relationships, improving retention rates, and maximizing the long-term value of the sustainer file through high-quality, audience-led campaigns. The Officer will report to the Associate Director of Retention & Integrated Marketing and will play a key role in enhancing the overall donor experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Officer's responsibilities are divided into several key areas:
  • Sustainer Engagement & Retention Strategy (40%): This includes supporting the development and execution of integrated campaigns aimed at improving sustainer retention and reducing attrition. The Officer will build and manage donor journeys across various channels, monitor performance metrics related to donor retention and lifetime value, and support stewardship initiatives such as donor recognition moments and milestone messaging.
  • Conversion, Upgrades & Audience Development (20%): The Officer will assist in executing strategies to convert one-time donors into monthly givers and coordinate with acquisition and audience teams to identify prospects for conversion and upgrades.
  • Campaign Coordination & Vendor Management (20%): This involves managing timelines and workflows for sustainer-focused campaigns, ensuring accurate deployment across platforms, and tracking vendor performance.
  • Operations, Reporting & Support (20%): The Officer will partner with the analytics team to maintain accurate reports, review campaign data, and coordinate with various program teams for shared donor stewardship efforts.
  • Innovation & Testing (5%): The Officer will identify opportunities for testing new approaches and contribute ideas for pilot programs, analyzing test results to foster a culture of innovation within the sustainer program.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a closely related field, although equivalent experience will also be considered. A minimum of 5 years of experience in donor engagement, direct marketing, or development is required, with a strong background in managing donor journeys or retention programs, particularly those involving monthly giving. Familiarity with CRM systems, segmentation, and campaign workflows is essential. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven, with a strong understanding of multichannel campaign execution and donor experience design. Collaboration skills and experience managing vendor relationships are also important, along with proficiency in Salesforce, Springboard, or other CRM and marketing platforms. An analytical mindset with experience using data to enhance performance and retention is crucial, as is a passion for donor engagement and long-term value generation.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a closely related field is preferred for this position. However, candidates with equivalent experience in relevant fields may also be considered. The educational background should ideally include coursework or training that equips the candidate with the necessary skills for effective communication, marketing strategies, and donor engagement.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience in donor engagement, direct marketing, or development.
