Job Overview:
The Program Officer position is designed to provide essential support to various projects, programs, and portfolios within FHI 36
  • This role involves collecting, compiling, and analyzing relevant information to ensure that project activities align with established work plans. The Program Officer will assist in project implementation, ensuring that technical expertise is applied effectively throughout the process. Responsibilities include gathering information to support project activities, maintaining compliance with internal and external regulations, and monitoring project budgets. The role varies based on the organizational location, with Program Officers in Business Units focusing on global awards and business development, while those in Regional Offices manage country-specific projects. The position requires a high level of proficiency in project management best practices and the ability to support proposal development and project execution.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties including programmatic management support, programmatic administration, business development, and finance support. Specific tasks include providing support to project management, leading meetings, reviewing expense reports and invoices, overseeing task completion, contributing to business development efforts, synthesizing project data, and tracking trends. The officer will also assist in document management, liaise with funders, and participate in business development activities such as proposal writing. Additionally, the role involves reading and interpreting budgets, managing pre-award assessments, and facilitating communication with subcontractors. The Program Officer may also mentor junior team members and participate in external events related to the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a full understanding of project management concepts and practices, with a basic knowledge of the technical areas relevant to the projects. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, along with demonstrated project management abilities. The ability to problem-solve and implement corrective actions is crucial, as is the capacity to prepare reports and provide timely information to management. Candidates should be articulate and professional, capable of clear communication with funders and staff.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Environment, Gender, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology, Youth, or related fields is required. A project management certification is preferred to enhance the candidate's qualifications.

Experience:
Typically, candidates should have a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in project management principles and practices. Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization is essential, with a preference for those who have experience in international or domestic program development or management.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak the language proficiently. Knowledge of the host country language is also preferred, as it may enhance communication and project implementation.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in a typical office environment, requiring the ability to spend long hours at a computer and perform repetitive tasks. The role may involve travel requirements of 10% to 25%. The expected salary range for this position in the United States is between USD 64,000 and 74,000 annually, with additional benefits including a 7% contribution to a pension plan, 18 days of paid vacation, 12 sick days, and 11 holidays per year.
