Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position at UNFPA South Sudan involves documenting and transforming survivor-centered narratives into high-quality advocacy and communication products. This role is crucial for amplifying survivor voices and creating impactful content that serves as advocacy tools, evidence for programming, and resources for community engagement. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the Programme Specialist - Gender and will be responsible for developing a documentation strategy, collecting stories, producing advocacy-oriented content, and compiling a professional anthology. The position emphasizes ethical storytelling and trauma-sensitive approaches, ensuring that the narratives protect identities and promote resilience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Online Volunteer include:
  • Developing an inception report and documentation framework that includes ethical storytelling guidelines, consent and confidentiality protocols, and trauma-sensitive approaches.
  • Collaborating with GBV caseworkers to identify and collect survivor stories, ensuring full consent and transforming case materials into narratives that highlight resilience and recovery.
  • Producing 25-35 high-quality stories and adapting them into various formats for advocacy, including social media excerpts and donor briefs.
  • Compiling a professional anthology of 40-60 pages that includes thematic chapters and contextual introductions on GBV in South Sudan.
  • Aligning storytelling outputs with UNFPA digital campaigns and providing content for community engagement tools.
  • Offering guidance to partners on ethical documentation and storytelling for advocacy, while promoting gender-sensitive messaging and youth engagement throughout the assignment.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of gender-based violence issues, ethical storytelling, and advocacy strategies. The volunteer should possess excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to transform complex narratives into accessible content. Familiarity with digital content creation and social media platforms is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate cultural sensitivity and a commitment to the principles of confidentiality and informed consent.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, communications, public health, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with experience in gender studies, human rights, or community development will be highly regarded. Relevant training in ethical storytelling and advocacy will also be beneficial.

Experience:
