Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's Climate Change, Energy & Environment programme in Pakistan. This position involves working closely with the Climate Change, Energy & Environment team to implement and monitor various programme activities aimed at addressing climate change and its impacts on children. The incumbent will be responsible for knowledge management, evidence generation, and youth engagement, ensuring that children's voices are central to climate policies and actions. The role requires a proactive approach to developing communication materials, conducting field visits, and collaborating with partners to promote youth participation in climate initiatives. The volunteer will also track climate financing opportunities and contribute to policy analysis to influence advocacy priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
Supporting the implementation and monitoring of the Climate Change, Energy & Environment programme and its annual workplan.
Developing communication materials and presentations to document lessons learned from programme activities.
Writing technical papers detailing the impact of climate change initiatives on target communities.
Tracking climate financing opportunities and analyzing their relevance to UNICEF's priorities.
Conducting field visits to gather data and information for knowledge generation and documentation.
Mapping climate partnerships across public, development, and private sectors.
Coordinating youth engagement activities with partners and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in knowledge management and evidence generation is essential, along with experience in youth engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of climate change issues and their impact on vulnerable populations, particularly children. Familiarity with climate financing mechanisms and policy advocacy is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should exhibit a commitment to UNICEF's core values of care, respect, integrity, trust, accountability, and sustainability.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in environmental science, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have a strong academic background that demonstrates their understanding of climate change, environmental issues, and child rights.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of relevant professional experience in climate change, environmental policy, or related fields. Experience working with children and youth, particularly in advocacy or community engagement contexts, is highly valued. Familiarity with the UN system and knowledge of UNICEF's mission and programs will be beneficial for candidates.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Urdu or other local languages is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a national UNV assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. A Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of PKR 183,920 will be provided monthly to cover housing, utilities, and living expenses. The assignment includes life health and permanent disability insurance, health insurance for up to 3 dependents, and a resettlement allowance for satisfactory service. The position is full-time, and the volunteer will work closely with various partners to achieve the programme's objectives.
