You will be responsible for system administration tasks related to Linux computers that are integral to the accelerator control system, including control room consoles, data center servers, real-time embedded platforms, and virtual machines. Additionally, you will participate in strategic projects aimed at evolving the accelerator control system infrastructure, particularly in the areas of container technology and orchestration, utilizing Kubernetes. Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform system administration tasks for Linux computers connected to the accelerator control system, including control room consoles, data center servers, real-time embedded platforms, and virtual machines.
Communicate effectively with end-users to understand their requirements and help translate these into appropriate technical solutions.
Investigate, diagnose, and resolve operational problems in collaboration with end-users, which may include equipment specialists and operations teams.
Actively participate in the strategic evolution of the accelerator control system infrastructure towards container technology hosted on Kubernetes.
Ensure the reliability and performance of critical Linux systems and services through effective monitoring and diagnostic solutions.
Collaborate with team members to implement configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet and utilize version control systems like Git.
Stay informed about developments in the field of Linux system administration and container technologies to enhance the operational capabilities of the CERN accelerator control system.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Computer Science or a related field. A strong understanding of the Linux operating system at an advanced level is essential, particularly with RedHat Enterprise Linux and Debian. Familiarity with networking, storage, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security aspects of Linux systems is required. Experience with high-performance and high-availability commercial server platforms is also necessary. Candidates should have knowledge of diagnostic and monitoring solutions for critical Linux systems and services, as well as configuration management tools like Ansible or Puppet. An interest in software failure analysis, diagnostics, and validation in a Linux environment is highly desirable. Knowledge of Kubernetes and container technologies such as Docker and Podman would be an advantage.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field is required for this position. Equivalent relevant experience may also be considered. Candidates should have a solid foundation in computer science principles, particularly as they relate to system administration and software engineering.

Additional Notes: This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The job requires a commitment of 40 hours per week and is fully onsite. The role may involve stand-by duty as required by the needs of the organization. The job grade is classified as 6-7, and the reference for this position is BE-CSS-CSA-2025-216-LD.
