Job Overview:
The GIS Expert position at UNFPA is crucial for enhancing the organization's geospatial capabilities, particularly in the context of Somalia, where accurate population data is essential for effective planning and program implementation. The role involves providing senior-level expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and population data management, focusing on the integration of various data sources to support decision-making processes. The GIS Expert will lead initiatives to improve data quality, develop interactive dashboards, and ensure that geospatial data is effectively utilized in health and immunization programs. Duties and Responsibilities:
The GIS Expert will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including: leading the design and implementation of GIS workflows for population and survey data; compiling and integrating spatial and non-spatial datasets; managing ArcGIS Enterprise environments; developing and maintaining dashboards for operational monitoring; coding Survey123 forms; restructuring and transforming datasets using SQL; producing high-quality maps and visualizations; ensuring data quality assurance procedures; providing technical guidance on GIS data management; training staff and partners; and contributing to technical reports and documentation. The role requires collaboration with various teams within UNFPA and the Government of Somalia to ensure that geospatial systems meet operational needs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Geoinformatics, or a related field. They should have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in GIS and spatial data management, with demonstrated expertise in managing complex datasets and administering ArcGIS Enterprise. Proficiency in coding Survey123 forms, creating dashboards, and integrating statistical and geospatial data is essential. Strong analytical, communication, and coordination skills are also required, along with experience in supporting UN agencies or government institutions.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in a relevant field such as Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Geoinformatics, Cartography, Remote Sensing, or Spatial Data Science is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to effectively manage and analyze geospatial data.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in GIS, spatial data management, and population data analysis. Candidates should have a proven track record of administering geospatial systems, managing datasets, and providing technical support in a professional setting, particularly in relation to health and immunization data.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, along with proficiency in Somali. These language skills are essential for effective communication and collaboration within the diverse context of Somalia and with various stakeholders.
