Job Overview: The Caseworker position is designed to provide trauma-informed services to refugees and other individuals qualified under the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to facilitate a positive integration experience and promote client self-sufficiency. The Caseworker will work closely with clients, colleagues, and external partners to create tailored service and self-sufficiency plans that align with individual client needs and preferences. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of various services and resources, including financial, medical, social, and vocational support, ensuring that all services provided are culturally and linguistically appropriate. The Caseworker will maintain a manageable caseload to deliver effective case management, including assistance with benefits applications and follow-up services, while also documenting all client interactions and ensuring compliance with IRC policies and donor requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Caseworker's responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting intake services to assess client needs and develop Family Self-Sufficiency Plans (FSSPs) and Individual Employability Plans (IEPs); providing individualized support through direct services, referrals, and advocacy to help clients overcome barriers and achieve stability and employment; guiding clients in accessing community services based on their service plans; ensuring that all services are linguistically and culturally appropriate; managing referrals for ORR-eligible and TANF-eligible clients; participating in case conferences to ensure continuity of care; documenting all client interactions in accordance with program requirements; entering client data into case management systems accurately and timely; ensuring compliance with IRC policies and donor requirements; collaborating with colleagues and community organizations to strengthen referral networks; conducting outreach to promote programs and services; participating in program meetings and training; and potentially training and guiding volunteers and interns. Additionally, the Caseworker may need to travel within the service area using personal or public transportation and adhere to IRC policies and standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Caseworker position should possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, although equivalent relevant experience may be considered as a substitute. A minimum of 2 years of case management experience in social services is required, with a preference for candidates who have experience serving vulnerable or underserved populations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage time effectively. They should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively in diverse, cross-cultural environments, and possess effective written and oral communication skills, with public speaking experience being a plus. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands are essential, along with a willingness to drive a 15-passenger van as needed.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field. While a degree is strongly preferred, candidates with equivalent relevant experience may be considered. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of social services and the needs of the populations served by the IRC.
Experience: The position requires at least 2 years of case management experience in social services. This experience should ideally include working with vulnerable or underserved populations, which is critical for understanding the unique challenges faced by clients in need of support and assistance.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, bilingual abilities in languages such as Spanish, Dari, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, French, or other languages commonly spoken by refugees and immigrants are preferred, as they enhance the Caseworker's ability to communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Notes: The working environment for this position includes a combination of standard office settings, remote work, and field time within the service delivery area. The Caseworker may be required to work occasional evenings or weekends and must be able to lift 35–50 pounds, which may include furniture, household supplies, or food boxes. The compensation for this role is set at a pay range of $20.16 per hour, applicable to US-based candidates, and is influenced by various factors such as the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget considerations.
