Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in strengthening a campaign aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing global public support for racial equality, particularly in the context of the 25th anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action. This position involves working closely with the Anti-Racial Discrimination and Communications and Public Mobilisation Sections to implement strategies that effectively communicate the importance of racial equality. The consultant will be responsible for developing content and outreach advocacy, ensuring that the campaign resonates with diverse audiences and aligns with the objectives set forth by the Human Rights Council. The role requires a proactive approach to content creation, public engagement, and the ability to adapt to evolving media landscapes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's duties will include:
Continuing the implementation of the campaign to raise awareness and mobilize global public support for racial equality.
Leading content development and outreach advocacy efforts, including the creation of audiovisual materials in accordance with Human Rights Council Resolution 60/1
Updating publication materials, particularly those related to the Second International Decade for People of African Descent and the United against Racism initiative.
Organizing an information campaign to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.
Developing key messages for International Days focused on combating racism, such as March 21, March 25, July 25, and August 3
Producing a variety of communications products, including stories, social media content, brochures, and backgrounders, with a strong emphasis on audiovisual content.
Monitoring and analyzing current events, public opinion, and media trends related to racial discrimination, providing advice on appropriate responses.
Assessing challenges faced by individuals and groups experiencing racial discrimination on social media platforms.
Evaluating the effectiveness and outreach of communications products. 1
Promoting media engagement through positive storytelling and examples. 1
Initiating and maintaining relationships with key constituencies, including universities, civil society organizations, and field presences. 1
Updating content on the OHCHR webpages dedicated to combating racism.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Strong drafting and oral communication skills are essential, as well as experience in developing and implementing campaigns and human rights communications strategies. Familiarity with audiovisual content creation is also required, as the consultant will be expected to produce engaging materials that effectively convey messages related to racial equality.
Educational Background: A first degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background ensures that the consultant has the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively engage with diverse audiences and create impactful communications strategies.
