Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Assistant will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: supporting the implementation of communication strategies; assisting in resource mobilization for communication activities; coordinating media access and coverage for events; producing and distributing audio and video materials; developing press releases and media lines; creating content for various platforms; developing communications products such as web stories and infographics; coordinating strategic communications partnerships; enhancing website functionality and user experience; analyzing digital media data; preparing data presentations and reports; updating information materials; keeping abreast of communication trends; and ensuring the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive information.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A first-level university degree or higher is preferred and can reduce the required work experience from seven years to five years. The role requires a strong understanding of strategic communications principles, digital production tools, and the ability to draft clear messages for diverse audiences. Knowledge of digital design and emerging media platforms is essential, along with the ability to use digital analytics tools and research information from various sources. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, effective communication skills, and technological awareness.
Educational Background: A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Candidates with a first-level university degree or higher will be given preference, as this can reduce the required years of relevant experience.
Experience: The position requires seven years of progressively responsible experience in communications, international relations, or related fields. However, candidates with a first-level university degree or higher may qualify with five years of experience. Experience in developing and editing multimedia products is desirable, as is experience working in an international organization.
Languages: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and proficiency in both is required for this position. Candidates should have a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages. Additionally, knowledge of Arabic, Spanish, Russian, or Chinese (Mandarin) is considered desirable, although not mandatory.
