Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the WASH Manager, contributing to the development and planning of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs. The role involves assisting in drafting inputs for situation analyses, supporting strategic planning discussions, and contributing to donor proposals. The volunteer will also be responsible for defining WASH indicators and targets, collaborating with colleagues and partners, and providing technical and operational support across program processes. The position requires active participation in monitoring national WASH systems and engaging with stakeholders to ensure effective program management and results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Programme Development and Planning: Assist in drafting WASH inputs for situation analyses, contribute to policy briefs, support strategic planning discussions, and collaborate with colleagues on achieving WASH results.
Programme Management, Monitoring, and Results: Support national WASH monitoring systems, participate in M&E exercises, and contribute to sectoral progress reporting.
Technical and Operational Support: Monitor UNICEF-supported WASH activities, provide technical support to partners, and assist in market-based sanitation initiatives.
Humanitarian WASH Preparedness and Response: Prepare requisitions and resources for emergency readiness and support humanitarian WASH coordination.
Networking and Partnership Building: Engage with national WASH coordination platforms and prepare advocacy materials.
Innovation, Knowledge Management, and Capacity Building: Support WASH action research, develop learning products, and participate in capacity-building activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A commitment to UNICEF's mission and values is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to engage with diverse stakeholders. Candidates should also exhibit a drive for results and a commitment to high ethical standards.
Educational Background: A degree in a relevant field such as public health, environmental science, social sciences, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in WASH or related areas would be an advantage.
Experience: Candidates should have experience in program development, monitoring, and evaluation, particularly in the WASH sector. Familiarity with UNICEF's operations and experience working in humanitarian contexts would be beneficial. Previous experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership building is also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Liberia would be an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is part of the malicious insurance plan for national UN Volunteers. The role may involve field visits and requires compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
