Job Overview:
The position of Research Coordinator within the Early Detection, Prevention, and Infections (EPR) Branch of IARC involves significant responsibilities in coordinating and supporting international research initiatives aimed at improving cancer early detection and prevention strategies. The EPR Branch is particularly focused on evaluating interventions such as vaccination and screening to reduce cancer incidence and mortality in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). • The role requires collaboration with senior scientists and various stakeholders to enhance the quality of cancer care and improve health outcomes for patients, particularly children with cancer. The Research Coordinator will also be involved in grant writing, publication of research findings, and presenting results at international conferences, thereby contributing to the advancement of knowledge in cancer epidemiology and control.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Research Coordinator will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including but not limited to:

• Coordinating epidemiological studies and public health projects focused on cancer control, particularly enhancing the quality of cancer care through evidence-based practices.
• Evaluating delays in childhood cancer diagnosis and treatment pathways, analyzing their impact on survival rates in LMICs.
• Conducting assessments of healthcare delivery systems to improve early diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancers.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to develop strategic plans for decentralizing cancer care services, utilizing a 'hub and spoke' model.
• Monitoring project progress and conducting site visits for supportive supervision of the DECAN-CHILD project.
• Preparing periodic reports for funding agencies and stakeholders.
• Analyzing research data and drafting scientific manuscripts for publication.
• Presenting research findings at international conferences to disseminate knowledge and foster collaboration.
• Assisting in the development of new projects related to cancer prevention and control, including grant proposal writing. 1
• Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall mission of the EPR Branch.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a PhD degree in Epidemiology or a closely related field. Essential qualifications include a minimum of one year of experience in cancer epidemiology, with specific expertise in developing early cancer diagnosis protocols, writing scientific reports for peer-reviewed journals, and preparing competitive grant proposals. Familiarity with cancer control strategies and health system assessments is crucial. Desirable qualifications include additional specialization in the cancer field and experience with statistical methods in epidemiology, particularly in survivorship studies.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a PhD in Epidemiology or a related discipline. Candidates with additional qualifications in cancer research or related fields will be considered favorably. The emphasis is on advanced knowledge and skills in epidemiological research methodologies and cancer control strategies.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of professional experience in cancer epidemiology. Candidates should have hands-on experience in developing protocols for early cancer diagnosis, conducting health system assessments, and writing scientific manuscripts for publication. Experience in preparing grant proposals for funding is also essential. Desirable experience includes familiarity with statistical analysis methods and participation in pattern of care studies.

Languages:

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to WHO Staff Regulations and includes a base salary starting at USD 43,834, with additional post adjustments based on the cost of living in Lyon.
