Job Overview:
The consultant position is situated within the Planning, Finance & Economy Section of the Urban Practices Branch (UPB) at UN-Habitat in Nairobi. The role involves providing urban solutions through technical expertise, knowledge sharing, and project implementation. The consultant will contribute to the development of tools and methodologies that support urban planning and finance, ensuring that safety and social inclusion issues are integrated into all aspects of the agency's work. The position is part-time and expected to last for three months, focusing on enhancing urban resilience and sustainability through innovative approaches and technical support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Developing and maintaining multi-hazard risk assessment maps and technical reports that prioritize urban water resilience and nature-based solutions strategies.
  • Creating specialized spatial analyses and cartographic outputs to support regional planning initiatives aimed at urban crisis prevention.
  • Designing and maintaining a dashboard for projects, tools, and partners related to public space and urban health, which will enable the monitoring of accessibility and quality indicators.
  • Contributing geospatial expertise to the directory on 'Integrating Urban Health in Urban and Territorial Planning.'
  • Providing technical GIS support to the Climate and Nature thematic area, which includes vulnerability mapping and intervention planning. These responsibilities require a strong understanding of urban planning, geospatial analysis, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Geography, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Spatial Planning, Urban Management and Development, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have at least two years of experience in urban planning and design, with a solid understanding of geospatial analysis, finance and economy, mapping, and cartography using GIS and CAD tools. This combination of education and experience is essential for effectively fulfilling the role's responsibilities.

Educational Background:
A university degree in a relevant field such as Geography, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Spatial Planning, or Urban Management and Development is required. This educational background provides the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to engage in urban planning and design effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in urban planning and design. Candidates should have practical knowledge in geospatial analysis, finance and economy, as well as experience in mapping and cartography using GIS and CAD tools. This level of experience is crucial for the consultant to contribute effectively to the projects and initiatives undertaken by UN-Habitat.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but English is the primary language of communication within the organization and for the tasks at hand.
