Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is a global organization established by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable urbanization. Job Overview:
The intern will be part of the Planning, Finance & Economy Section of UN-Habitat, which is responsible for coordinating the agency's work on urban planning, finance, and economic development. The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Urban Lab team coordinator and will be tasked with implementing communication and design strategies that emphasize visual communication. This role involves creating compelling graphics for social media, infographics, and other outreach products, transforming complex data into engaging visual formats, and producing digital content tailored for various audiences. The intern will also be responsible for ensuring brand consistency across all publications and digital platforms, supporting the editing and curation of multimedia content, and contributing to the development of a design and media library.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in the definition and implementation of the communication and design strategy for the Planning, Finance and Economy Section (PFES).
  • Leading and supporting graphic design efforts for social media campaigns, infographics, and visual reports.
  • Transforming complex data into clear and engaging infographics and charts.
  • Producing and editing promotional visuals, videos, and presentations.
  • Designing and formatting official publications and reports to ensure brand consistency.
  • Creating artwork and templates for social media posts and campaigns.
  • Supporting the editing and curation of photos and videos for various platforms.
  • Liaising with the Advocacy, Outreach and Communication Unit to ensure alignment with corporate identity.
  • Contributing to the branding and visual identity of PFES events and campaigns. 1
  • Reviewing performance metrics of communication products and adapting strategies accordingly. 1
  • Supporting the integration of visual assets into reports and newsletters. 1
  • Contributing to the organization of a design and media library for easy access to graphics and templates.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, demonstrating a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. They should also have the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
The preferred areas of study for applicants include Communication, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, International Development, or related fields relevant to sustainable urban development. Applicants must be students in their final year of a Bachelor's degree, Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed one of these degrees.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme, experience in urban design, communication, or graphic design is necessary. Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and other Adobe Suite applications is desirable, along with general social media management experience.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language is considered desirable.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
