Job Overview:
The Electronics Engineer position within the Electronic Systems for Experiments (ESE) group at CERN focuses on the production and functional testing of Hybrid circuits for the CMS Phase-2 Outer Tracker Upgrade. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the qualification and production of advanced instrumentation designed for the CMS detector upgrade. The successful candidate will be involved in a large-scale upgrade project characterized by unprecedented complexity and scale, contributing to the quality control and testing of prototype circuits, and supporting the engineering efforts necessary for the manufacturing processes of hybrids. This position requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including hardware, software, quality control, and physics experts, to define and implement quality requirements, as well as preparing documentation and reports on the progress of testing activities and manufacturing.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Electronics Engineer include contributing to the quality control and testing of prototype circuits, installing, verifying, and maintaining large-scale test systems at multiple high-tech industrial contractors. The engineer will also provide engineering support for industrial partners in setting up and maintaining manufacturing processes for hybrids. Additionally, the role involves supporting the organization and logistics efforts required for hybrid production, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to define and implement quality requirements, and providing engineering support for debugging, repair, and production of a large-scale automated test system. The engineer will be responsible for preparing documentation and reports to communicate progress on testing activities and manufacturing to the collaboration.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess knowledge of testing electronic components and prototypes using laboratory instruments such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and multimeters. Experience in test system development, including hardware and software, is essential, with proficiency in Python and C+ being highly desirable. Candidates should have experience liaising with industry partners and quality control of electronic circuits. Familiarity with SQL databases and data analysis is advantageous. The ideal candidate will have skills in PCB design and a basic understanding of PCB manufacturing technology, as well as the ability to devise original approaches to solving multidisciplinary problems. The role requires independence in setting priorities and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a complex and technically challenging environment. Knowledge of software development management techniques, such as continuous integration and version control, is also beneficial.

Educational Background:
Applicants must hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering or a related field. Candidates without a university degree are not eligible for this position, and those with a PhD are also not eligible. By the application deadline, candidates should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the position is fully onsite. A valid driving license is required. The job reference for this position is EP-ESE-FE-2026-62-GRAE. The successful candidate will receive a monthly stipend ranging from 5266 to 5793 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free and dependent on their degree.
