Job Overview:
The internship position is based in Geneva and is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in open source research and analysis related to the situation in Myanmar. Interns will work closely with the Open Source Project Team within the CASS section of the IIMM. The role involves conducting open source research, preparing analyses, and contributing to the preparation of analytical reports and other work products. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with complex and sensitive materials, which may include violent imagery and distressing subject matters. This internship is a unique opportunity for individuals interested in international law, human rights, and conflict studies, allowing them to gain valuable insights into the workings of the UN and the challenges faced in post-conflict investigations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting open source research on issues related to Myanmar; preparing detailed analyses and reports based on their findings; assisting in the discovery, capture, compilation, and review of open source information and documentation; collaborating with team members to develop strategies for effective research and analysis; and contributing to the overall objectives of the Open Source Project Team. Interns may also be required to participate in team meetings, provide updates on their research progress, and assist in the dissemination of findings to relevant stakeholders. The internship will provide a comprehensive understanding of the methodologies used in open source investigations and the importance of evidence collection in the context of international law.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or in an advanced university degree (Master's or PhD Programme or equivalent), or must have completed a university degree no more than one year prior to the application date. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary, and training or prior academic experience in online research and analysis of open source information is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a relevant educational background, which includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree. The field of study should ideally relate to international relations, human rights, law, social sciences, or a similar discipline. Proof of enrollment or completion of the required educational qualifications must be provided with the application, and an official certificate may be requested at a later stage.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, candidates are encouraged to have relevant academic or training experience in online research and analysis, particularly in the context of conflict or post-conflict investigations. Any previous internships or work with UN entities or knowledge of the Myanmar context will be considered advantageous and should be detailed in the application.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Proficiency in French is also beneficial, as it is the other working language. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, particularly in written and verbal forms, to fulfill the requirements of the internship.
