Job Overview:
The Graduate position within the HSE-ENV group at CERN focuses on contributing to the organization's greenhouse gas accounting, decarbonisation strategy, and energy regulatory monitoring. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the annual update of CERN's greenhouse gas inventory, which includes Scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions. This involves collaborating with various departments to enhance data granularity and updating emission factors. The role also includes supporting the decarbonisation strategy by developing procedures for data traceability, assessing reduction potentials, and investigating new decarbonisation-specific KPIs. Additionally, the Graduate will assist in energy management by leading regulatory watch activities, preparing documentation for ISO 50001, and contributing to energy data analysis and reviews. The position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to work autonomously while interacting with multiple stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carbon Footprint & Greenhouse Gas Accounting: Support the annual update of CERN's greenhouse gas inventory, collaborate with IPT to propose solutions for increasing Scope 3 data granularity, update emission factors, and contribute to emission projections for future projects.
  • Decarbonisation Strategy Support: Develop and implement procedures for data traceability, assess reduction potentials, and investigate new KPIs for decarbonisation initiatives.
  • Energy Management Support: Lead the update of regulatory watch activities, assist in ISO 50001 documentation preparation, contribute to audit preparations, and support energy data analysis.
  • PESS & Project Support: Contribute to weekly situation points and assist in various project-related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in relevant fields such as Energy and Climate Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Industrial Ecology. The highest educational qualification required is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Applicants without a university degree or those with a PhD are not eligible for this position.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Energy and Climate Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Ecology, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to CERN's environmental initiatives.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. This experience should be relevant to the fields of energy systems, climate science, or environmental engineering, ensuring that the candidate is well-prepared to engage with the responsibilities of the role.

Languages:
Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory, with a commitment to learn the other language. This bilingual requirement is essential for effective communication within the diverse environment at CERN.

The position is a full-time role with a contract duration of 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the target start date for the position is July 1, 202
  • The role also requires a valid driving license. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 5266 to 5793 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year, comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances.
