Job Overview: The Project Manager position is located within UNEP's Climate Change Division, specifically in the Adaptation & Resilience Branch, Climate Change Adaptation Unit (CCAU). The incumbent will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and projects that address climate change adaptation, particularly those funded by the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), Adaptation Fund (AF), and Green Climate Fund (GCF). The role requires close collaboration with national executing entities and involves monitoring and analyzing project development and implementation. The Project Manager will also be tasked with identifying problems and proposing corrective actions, conducting research and analysis, and preparing written outputs such as reports and publications. Additionally, the position involves organizing outreach activities, conducting training workshops, and leading field missions to provide guidance to various stakeholders. The Project Manager will play a key role in coordinating budget-related activities and ensuring that projects align with global climate goals and the specific needs of individual countries.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Project Manager include:
Developing, implementing, and evaluating assigned programs/projects in collaboration with national executing entities, particularly those funded by LDCF, AF, and GCF.
Monitoring and analyzing program/project development and implementation, identifying problems and issues, and initiating corrective actions.
Liaising with relevant parties to ensure follow-up actions are taken.
Conducting research, analyzing, and presenting information gathered from diverse sources.
Designing data collection tools, generating survey initiatives, and interpreting responses to prepare conclusions.
Organizing and preparing written outputs, including drafting background papers, analyses, and sections of reports.
Initiating and coordinating outreach activities, conducting training workshops, and making presentations on assigned topics.
Leading or participating in field missions, providing guidance to external consultants and government officials, and drafting mission summaries.
Coordinating activities related to budget funding, preparing related documents and reports. 1
Collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights through data visualization methods for decision-making and reporting. 1
Developing project proposals and liaising with country counterparts and funding bodies during proposal development. 1

Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Project Manager position include:
Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in sustainable development, environmental sciences, development studies, or a related field.
A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is desirable.
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or program management is required.
Experience working with governments on adaptation planning and project design is essential.
Proven experience in providing technical inputs and strategic advice for climate change adaptation projects is required.
At least two years of experience managing project budgets of USD 10 million and above is required.
Experience guiding and managing climate change risk assessment assignments is desirable.
Experience working within the United Nations common system or similar international organizations is also desirable. 1
