Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position at UNFPA South Sudan is designed to support the organization's humanitarian efforts by engaging with media outlets and developing communication materials that promote UNFPA's work. The volunteer will be responsible for identifying compelling stories related to UNFPA's humanitarian programs and pitching them to various media channels. This role requires collaboration with implementing partners to create high-quality multimedia content, manage social media channels, and draft essential communication materials such as press releases and fact sheets. The volunteer will also support advocacy initiatives and strengthen collaboration with UN Country Team communications colleagues to enhance outreach and advocacy opportunities. The position is crucial for increasing the visibility of UNFPA's humanitarian response and ensuring effective communication during emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will carry out a variety of duties, including: engaging with electronic and print media to promote UNFPA's humanitarian work; identifying and pitching compelling stories to media outlets; developing multimedia materials in coordination with partners; managing social media channels; drafting press releases and communication materials; preparing updates for humanitarian donors; supporting advocacy initiatives; strengthening collaboration with communications colleagues; establishing relationships with media and partners; providing technical guidance to communications focal points; contributing to capacity strengthening of staff; and performing any other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor. The volunteer's efforts will lead to increased visibility of UNFPA's work, strengthened media engagement, timely production of communication materials, consistent donor visibility, enhanced social media presence, improved coordination across communications outputs, and increased availability of field-based content.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Online Volunteer position should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and have a good understanding of media engagement strategies. They should be able to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and have experience in developing multimedia content. Familiarity with social media management and communication tools is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to UNFPA's mission and values, including gender equality and human rights. Additionally, candidates should be adaptable, proactive, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field is preferred for the Online Volunteer position. Candidates with relevant experience in media or communications may also be considered, even if they do not have a formal degree in the specified areas. A strong understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues and humanitarian contexts will be an advantage.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience in communications, media relations, or a related field. Previous volunteer or internship experience in a similar role will be beneficial. Experience working in humanitarian settings or with international organizations is a plus.

Languages:
