Job Overview:
The UNV Knowledge Management position is a vital role within UNICEF Syria’s Adolescent Development and Participation (ADAP) programme. This flagship initiative aims to empower adolescents and young people to actively participate in Syria’s recovery process. The role is hosted within the ADAP Section, which serves as a platform for system strengthening by connecting skills development, civic engagement, and pathways to earning. The ADAP programme is structured around three core pillars: System Building and Institutional Strengthening, which includes national TVET reform and the development of Syria’s first National Youth Strategy; Service Delivery, which provides life skills, vocational training, psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support, and safe spaces for vulnerable adolescents; and Evidence Generation and Advocacy, which ensures that youth voices and data inform national policies and programming. The Knowledge Management role will involve evidence generation, reporting, and the development of knowledge products to support the programme's objectives and enhance the impact of UNICEF's initiatives in Syria.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UNV Knowledge Management will have a range of responsibilities, including: conducting regular field visits to document practices and lessons learned; planning and conducting semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions; preparing practice notes and success stories; collating inputs from field officers for monthly situation notes and donor reports; developing visually compelling presentations for briefings and workshops; coordinating with various teams to synchronize key messages; maintaining shared repositories for easy data retrieval; applying branding and visibility standards; and ensuring compliance with data protection protocols. The role requires a proactive approach to knowledge management, ensuring that all documentation is accurate, accessible, and aligned with UNICEF's standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UNV Knowledge Management position should possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a proven ability to document and present information clearly. Familiarity with knowledge management systems and tools is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's values and principles, particularly in relation to child safeguarding and gender equality. Experience in the humanitarian or development sector is highly desirable, along with a strong understanding of the challenges faced by adolescents in conflict-affected settings.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, communications, international development, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees are preferred and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role. Educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in research methodologies, data analysis, and effective communication strategies.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in knowledge management, research, or a related field. Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts, particularly in the Middle East, is advantageous. Familiarity with UNICEF's programming and policies, as well as experience in engaging with adolescents and youth, will be beneficial for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate effective communication with local stakeholders and beneficiaries. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of engaging with diverse communities in Syria.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Damascus, Syria. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The position offers a Volunteer Living Allowance to cover housing and living expenses, along with life, health, and permanent disability insurance. Additionally, a Well-Being Differential will be provided monthly for non-family duty stations classified as hardship categories D or E.
