Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer Translator is crucial for WFP Sudan’s emergency response efforts. The role involves translating communication materials swiftly and accurately between English and Arabic. This includes a variety of documents such as press releases, social media content, field reports, human-interest stories, advocacy materials, and fact sheets. These materials are essential for informing the public and partners, as well as for countering misinformation. The role is divided into two groups: Group A focuses on translation from Arabic to English, while Group B is responsible for proofreading the translated materials to ensure accuracy and cultural appropriateness. The volunteers will work collaboratively to ensure that the communication needs of WFP are met effectively during emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Group A – Arabic to English Translators (4 volunteers): - Translate 5 social media posts per week from Arabic to English. - Translate 5 beneficiary interviews from Arabic to English. - Translate 5 reports from Arabic to English. - Translate donor materials, including 5 press releases and 5 progress reports from Arabic to English.
• Group B – Proofreader (1 volunteer): - Review and proofread all translated materials to ensure accuracy and contextual relevance. - Ensure that translations are culturally appropriate and resonate with the intended audience. - Simplify technical content for public readability while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the information provided.

Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in both Arabic and English, with strong translation skills.
- Experience in translating various types of documents, particularly in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Familiarity with the cultural nuances of both languages to ensure accurate and appropriate translations.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
- A degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
- Relevant certifications in translation or language proficiency may be advantageous.

Experience:
- Previous experience in translation or proofreading is highly desirable.
- Experience working with humanitarian organizations or in emergency response contexts is a plus.

Languages:
Mandatory: Proficiency in Arabic and English.
Good to have: Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region or humanitarian work may be beneficial.
