Job Overview: The Associate Director of Leadership Strategy Engagement (LSE) plays a pivotal role in facilitating senior leadership engagement with key donors at the International Rescue Committee. This position acts as an internal 'air traffic controller' and serves as a critical fundraising resource. The Associate Director will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including the President’s Office, Leadership Board, and Senior Directors of Private Fundraising, to ensure a well-orchestrated experience for the organization’s most significant donors. The role is designed to align executive leadership engagement with frontline fundraising activities and stewardship execution, ensuring that donor relationships are advanced thoughtfully and efficiently according to established strategies. The Associate Director will also be responsible for strengthening systems and processes to enhance leadership engagement and ensure that high-priority donors receive a coherent and high-quality engagement experience across different geographies and fundraising teams.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Director will have several key responsibilities, including:
High-priority Donor Portfolio Facilitation: Maintain coordination of all activities and progress toward fundraising strategies for donors engaging with executive leadership. Partner with the VP of Philanthropy and other fundraising leaders to advance donor strategies in alignment with organizational priorities. Ensure that top donor giving data, reporting, and stewardship are consistently tracked and managed globally.
Executive Leadership Engagement: Collaborate with High Value Leaders and fundraising partners to coordinate executive leader engagement in high-priority donor strategies. Consolidate and prioritize requests for executive involvement in donor meetings and events. Co-lead internal planning meetings to support donor strategy.
Donor Experience & Stewardship Alignment: Define expectations and engagement approaches for high-priority donors in partnership with fundraising staff. Monitor donor stewardship activities to ensure consistent engagement for executive leadership. Provide regular updates on donor portfolios and pipelines to leadership.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for this position should possess 6-8 years of experience in fundraising, advancement strategy, or executive coordination. Previous frontline fundraising experience is a plus, as is experience working with executive leadership in large, complex organizations. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to manage sensitive donor information with discretion and diplomacy, along with strong organizational, communication, and strategic planning skills. Familiarity with CRM systems and data-driven portfolio management is essential, with Salesforce experience being particularly advantageous. The candidate should be collaborative, proactive, and highly detail-oriented, with a passion for the IRC’s mission and a commitment to supporting its long-term goals.
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree is typically required for this position, although a master’s degree in a relevant field may be preferred. Educational qualifications should reflect a strong foundation in areas related to fundraising, nonprofit management, or business administration, equipping the candidate with the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of donor engagement and fundraising strategies.
