Job Overview:
The Jordan INGO Forum Director is tasked with the overall responsibility of facilitating, leading, and ensuring the quality management of the INGO Forum's work. This role is crucial in ensuring that the Forum remains relevant to the needs of its members and is appropriately aligned with the context in Jordan. The Director will engage with various stakeholders, including high-level operational concerns and strategic decision-making processes, while also representing the Forum on regional and global platforms to elevate the profile of the Jordan INGO Forum (JIF). The position requires strong leadership skills to foster teamwork, accountability, and delegation among Forum members, ensuring effective coordination and information sharing between INGOs and other stakeholders. The Director will also oversee the development and implementation of advocacy strategies, manage budgeting and financial accountability, and act as a focal point for information sharing among NGOs.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Jordan INGO Forum Director include:
  • Providing leadership to the Forum by promoting delegation, accountability, and teamwork among members.
  • Ensuring transparent coordination mechanisms and regular information sharing between INGOs and other stakeholders.
  • Facilitating high-quality, regular meetings of Country Directors and thematic working groups to enhance strategic and operational coordination.
  • Representing INGO interests in external meetings and planning efforts at both national and global levels, guiding common advocacy and policy engagement.
  • Setting proactive agendas and facilitating collaboration among INGOs and other stakeholders, enabling effective decision-making through shared information and analysis.
  • Overseeing the development, review, and implementation of the JIF Advocacy Strategy in collaboration with the JIF Advocacy Working Group.
  • Managing budgeting, budget management, and accountability with support from NRC’s finance and grants teams.
  • Acting as the focal point for information sharing and managing NGO Forum and INGO membership, including contact lists and mailing lists.
  • Managing the Secretariat staff and consultants, ensuring responsiveness and support for staff well-being. 1
  • Ensuring compliance with procedures for the Forum and adherence to JIF approved policies and donor guidelines. 1
  • Fundraising for the JIF in coordination with the Steering Committee to maintain operational funding.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Jordan INGO Forum Director position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or postgraduate qualifications in international relations, political science, development, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a protracted crisis or post-conflict setting with an INGO in a senior management role, such as Country Director or equivalent.
  • Additional experience in coordination roles within both humanitarian and development settings is preferred.
  • Proven high-profile management, coordination, and advocacy experience in conflict-affected countries within a humanitarian context.
  • Strong communication, leadership, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Documented experience in developing proposals, budgets, and reports, along with familiarity with alternative funding modalities.
  • Knowledge of international law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">humanitarian law and humanitarian reform is advantageous, as well as familiarity with humanitarian architecture, the UN system, and development coordination.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong educational background, ideally holding an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in international relations, political science, development, or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the political landscape in which the Jordan INGO Forum operates.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least 5 years of relevant experience in a protracted crisis or post-conflict setting, specifically in a senior management role within an INGO. This experience should include a strong background in coordination roles that span both humanitarian and development contexts, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex operational environments and advocate effectively for the needs of affected populations.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position, along with strong writing and editing skills. Knowledge of Arabic is considered an added value, enhancing communication and engagement with local stakeholders and communities.

  • The role may require travel of up to 10%. The salary and benefits are classified under Grade 11 on NRC's grading structure.
