Job Overview:
As a Ground Segment Cybersecurity Engineer, you will be a vital part of the Ground Segment System and Cybersecurity Engineering Section (OPS-GAE) at ESA. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of European space operations by designing and implementing cybersecurity measures for ground segment solutions. This role requires a blend of technical leadership and hands-on engineering skills, as you will be involved in the entire engineering life cycle, from concept development to deployment. You will work closely with various teams within ESA and external partners to architect innovative cybersecurity solutions that protect mission-critical systems. Your contributions will directly impact the resilience of European space systems, making this position both challenging and rewarding.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Your duties will include coordinating ground segment security risk assessments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities, shaping robust security architectures, and ensuring effective security controls are in place. You will consolidate security findings into a comprehensive system security picture and support program teams during procurement processes. Additionally, you will participate in major system reviews, provide expert input into technical boards, and oversee security verification and validation activities. You will also enhance information security management processes, define security operations procedures, and contribute to the technology roadmap for future security innovations. Your role may involve acting as Project Security Officer and coordinating engineering efforts across various Agency stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master's degree in a relevant field. A strong background in project management, procurement of industrial services, and complex inter-organizational projects is essential. Familiarity with system and software engineering methodologies, as well as state-of-the-art cybersecurity technologies, is required. Knowledge of ESA technology programs and existing space communication and security standards is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in architecting and managing cybersecurity engineering aspects, including large and complex system and software engineering projects throughout their life cycle.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in a relevant domain is mandatory for this position. This educational background should ideally include coursework or experience related to cybersecurity, systems engineering, or a closely related field that equips the candidate with the necessary skills to perform effectively in this role.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in cybersecurity engineering, particularly in architecting and managing cybersecurity aspects of large and complex systems. Experience in conducting cybersecurity risk assessments and supporting system cybersecurity certification processes is also crucial. Familiarity with engineering project planning and management, as well as managing industrial contracts, is expected. A proven track record of developing and managing customer relationships is highly desirable, along with experience in driving research and development or industrial activities.

Languages:
Fluency in English or French is required, as these are the working languages of ESA. Knowledge of another language from a Member State would be considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the diverse workforce of ESA.

The position is a four-year appointment, extendable to indefinite, and is classified within the grade band A2-A
  • However, candidates with less than four years of relevant professional experience may be considered for an A1 level position.
