Job Overview: In this role, the Electronics Technician will play a crucial part in supporting the operation and reliability of CERN's electronics pool equipment. The technician will be responsible for testing, qualifying, and maintaining a wide range of electronic instruments that are essential for high-energy physics experiments and laboratories. Duties and Responsibilities: The Electronics Technician will have a diverse set of responsibilities including:
Testing electronics equipment and instrumentation to ensure functionality and reliability.
Identifying faults in equipment and carrying out necessary firmware and hardware fixes.
Creating and correcting test procedure documentation as required to maintain high standards of operation.
Maintaining both hardware and software of existing test benches in collaboration with responsible technicians to ensure optimal performance.
Participating in the daily operations of the electronics pool service, providing support to service users as needed.
Contributing to the evaluation of new devices and technologies that may enhance the capabilities of the electronics pool.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a basic interest in the field of electronics, along with some experience in testing, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment, particularly modular electronics and instrumentation. Experience in user support or customer-oriented services is considered an asset. Knowledge and application of instrumentation and measurement techniques, as well as operation and maintenance of data-acquisition, monitoring, and control systems, are essential. Familiarity with modular low and high-voltage power supplies is also required. Candidates must possess spoken and written proficiency in English or French, with a commitment to learning the basics of the other language.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is a general secondary education diploma. Candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State and should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electronics or a related field. It is important to note that applicants with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree are not eligible for this position.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a maximum of two years of professional experience in the field of electronics or a related area since graduation. This experience should ideally include practical exposure to testing and maintaining electronic equipment, as well as familiarity with laboratory environments.
Languages: Proficiency in spoken and written English or French is mandatory for this position. Candidates should also be committed to learning the basics of the other language to facilitate communication within the diverse CERN community.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the target start date for the position is June 1, 202
The job reference for this position is EP-ESE-BE-2026-69-GRAE. The compensation includes a monthly stipend of 4687 Swiss Francs, which is tax-free, along with 30 days of paid leave per year and additional benefits such as comprehensive health insurance coverage, family allowances, and a relocation package depending on individual circumstances. On-the-job and formal training, including language classes, will also be provided.
