Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global organization established to eradicate poverty while protecting the planet. It operates in 170 countries and territories, helping nations develop strong policies, skills, partnerships, and institutions to sustain their progress. The UNDP Angola Country Office is currently implementing its Country Programme for the period of 2020 – 2022, focusing on the principles of 'leaving no one behind' and 'reaching those furthest behind first'. The program addresses complex development challenges through three main priorities: fostering poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth, increasing resilience to shocks and crises while enhancing natural resource management, and strengthening inclusive democracy, human rights, justice, and rule of law. UNDP Angola collaborates with the Government of Angola to mobilize resources and efforts to tackle development challenges, particularly in biodiversity, renewable energy, environmental policy, climate change, and disaster risk reduction. The organization operates from its main office in Luanda and has site representations in Benguela, Cuanza Sul, and Huíla.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is designed for individuals who will work under the guidance of the Programme Analyst and in close collaboration with the communications team. The primary responsibility of the Online Volunteer is to produce design proposals for two versions of final reports (one in English and one in Portuguese) that cover the results of the Integrated Biological and Behavioural Survey (IBBS) among key populations in Angola. This survey has provided updated data on HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among key populations at risk, including men who have sex with men, transgender women, and sex workers. The reports are crucial for revising strategies and investments by the government and various donors. The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to enhance their design skills while contributing to a significant public health initiative and will also be able to build connections with the Policy and Communications team within UNDP.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be tasked with several key responsibilities:
  • Layout and design of both the Portuguese and English versions of the final report, ensuring that the documents are visually appealing and functional.
  • Review and enhance the graphics and tables that have been translated, integrating them into a coherent design project.
  • Create and incorporate infographics where relevant to improve clarity and understanding of the report's content.
  • Adhere to the corporate design guidelines provided by UNDP, ensuring consistency and professionalism in the final output.
  • Collaborate closely with the communications team to ensure that the design aligns with the overall messaging and objectives of the reports.
  • Participate in feedback sessions to refine the design proposals based on input from the Programme Analyst and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Online Volunteer position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of design principles and experience in creating visually appealing layouts for reports or publications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Familiarity with corporate design guidelines and the ability to adhere to them in the design process.
  • A keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Previous experience in designing reports or similar documents is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates should ideally have a background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field. A degree or certification in graphic design or a similar discipline will be considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a portfolio of previous design work that showcases their skills and creativity.

Experience:
While specific years of experience may not be required for this volunteer position, candidates should have some practical experience in graphic design, whether through academic projects, internships, or freelance work. Experience in designing reports or publications, especially in a professional or organizational context, will be advantageous.

Languages:
Proficiency in both English and Portuguese is mandatory, as the reports will be produced in both languages. Candidates should be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in both languages to ensure accurate translation and design of the reports. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered a plus but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, it provides an excellent opportunity for individuals to gain experience in a reputable international organization, enhance their design skills, and contribute to important public health initiatives. The position may be part-time or full-time, depending on the availability of the volunteer and the needs of the project. The duration of the contract is not specified, but it is expected to align with the timeline for the completion of the final reports.
