Job Overview:
The Knowledge Management Intern position is designed for individuals seeking to gain practical experience in the field of knowledge management within the context of the United Nations. The intern will work under the supervision of the Deputy Chief of the Security Sector Reform Unit (SSRU) and will be involved in various tasks aimed at supporting the development and management of the UN Security Sector Reform & Governance Knowledge Hub (SSR-KH). This role is particularly suited for students or recent graduates who are interested in international relations, peacekeeping, and governance. The internship is flexible, allowing for either full-time or part-time commitment, and can be conducted remotely or in a hybrid format at the UN premises in New York. The expected duration of the internship is six months, starting as early as April 1, 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of duties that include supporting the development of the SSR-KH in SharePoint, sourcing and uploading SSR materials from UN member states, serving as a point of contact for SSR information requests, and promoting the SSR-KH within the UN system. Additionally, the intern will monitor the usage of the knowledge hub, evaluate its effectiveness, assist in drafting lessons learned studies, and support the organization of the UN SSR Annual Workshop 'CommonConnections'. This position requires a proactive approach to knowledge management and organizational learning, as well as strong communication skills to engage with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant field. While professional work experience is not mandatory, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship. Candidates must also be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree, or enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to draft news articles and social media posts, as well as design surveys and polls.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields related to international relations, public administration, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines. Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program, and should provide proof of their academic status in their application.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This may include internships, volunteer work, or projects related to knowledge management, governance, or international relations.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is the second working language of the UN Secretariat. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

This internship is unpaid, and candidates should be aware that they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The internship can be either full-time (35 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week), and the start and end dates are flexible.
