Job Overview: The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director for Nepal will play a crucial leadership role in guiding Plan International's operations in the country. This position involves setting the strategic direction for the organization’s work, ensuring high-quality program delivery, and achieving sustainable organizational performance. The Country Director will lead a diverse team of approximately 130 staff and manage a country program with an annual budget of around €10 million. This role requires a leader who can effectively represent Plan International at various levels, including government, donors, and civil society, while ensuring impactful outcomes for vulnerable children, particularly girls. The Country Director will be responsible for driving organizational transformation, enhancing accountability, and establishing Plan International Nepal as a credible and influential actor in development and humanitarian efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Country Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for Plan International’s development, humanitarian, and advocacy work in Nepal. Key responsibilities include: developing and implementing a Country Strategy focused on gender transformation and child rights; ensuring high-quality program delivery that connects community actions with national advocacy; preparing for and responding to emergencies; mobilizing resources from various funding sources; leading a high-performing, inclusive team; ensuring compliance with donor and legal requirements; and acting as the senior representative of Plan International in Nepal, fostering relationships with key stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess senior leadership experience of at least five years in international development or humanitarian contexts, demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility. A strong understanding of child rights, gender equality, and girls’ rights is essential, along with the ability to translate these commitments into effective programs and strategies. Proven experience in resource mobilization and donor engagement, particularly in challenging environments, is required. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in leading diverse teams, managing organizational change, and building positive employee relations, as well as strong political acumen and networking abilities.
Educational Background: A relevant Master’s degree in development studies, social sciences, business administration, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of international development and humanitarian work.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of senior leadership experience in international development and/or humanitarian contexts. This experience should include progressively responsible roles that demonstrate the ability to lead teams, manage programs, and engage with various stakeholders effectively.
Languages: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory for this role. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required.
