Job Overview: The Communications Associate will be stationed at the UNV programme Field Unit in Vientiane, Laos, working under the supervision of the UNV Country Coordinator. This role involves supporting the Client Engagement Assistant and collaborating with the United Nations Communications Group (UNCG) members in Vientiane, as well as the UNV Regional Office for the Asia Pacific (ROAP) in Bangkok. The primary functions of this position include content creation, digital media management, advocacy, and outreach, all aimed at enhancing the visibility and impact of UNV's work in the region. The Communications Associate will play a crucial role in storytelling, showcasing the experiences of UN Volunteers, and promoting the organization's mission through various media channels.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support Content Creation and Storytelling: The Communications Associate will draft 'Impact Stories' by interviewing UN Volunteers and writing compelling articles or blog posts about their experiences. They will also engage in multimedia production by capturing high-quality photos and short videos of volunteers in action for use on social media and global UNV platforms. Additionally, they will document 'best practices' to illustrate how volunteering contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Digital Media Management: The Associate will manage the Field Unit's Facebook page by creating engaging posts, responding to inquiries, and keeping the page updated with news, vacancy announcements, and event highlights.
Advocacy and Outreach: The role includes supporting the Field Unit in creating info-sheets or promotional materials and coordinating communications-related tasks for outreach events.
Other Support: The Communications Associate will represent the Field Unit in the UN Communications Group, coordinate with other UN partners on joint events, and undertake other tasks as required by the UNV Country Coordinator.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills, creativity, and a commitment to the values of volunteerism. They should possess the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and exhibit professionalism and respect for diversity. Adaptability and flexibility are essential, as is a strong sense of accountability and self-management. The ideal candidate will also have a proactive approach to problem-solving and a willingness to engage with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: A degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required. Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in communications, media management, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations or in a multicultural environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content creation tools is essential, as is the ability to produce high-quality written and visual content.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Lao or other regional languages is considered a valuable asset, as it enhances communication with local communities and stakeholders.
