Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position in the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section (TPFS) of the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division at UN ESCAP offers a unique opportunity for candidates to gain hands-on experience in trade policy work. Interns will engage in a variety of tasks that contribute to the organization's mission of providing evidence-based policy guidance and capacity building in the Asia-Pacific region. Interns will be involved in research, analysis, and the preparation of training materials, as well as supporting the organization of events and dialogues related to trade policy. This position is available both remotely and onsite, allowing for flexibility in how interns can participate in the program. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days per week, totaling 35 hours.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will have a range of responsibilities that may vary based on their background and the specific needs of their supervisor. Key duties include: conducting policy research on contemporary trade issues, including digital trade, e-commerce, and global value chains; drafting background documents and policy notes; preparing presentations and training materials; supporting data management tasks such as identifying data sources and maintaining databases; editing and formatting papers; and assisting in organizing online and onsite events, including seminars and meetings. Interns will also be expected to engage in communication and dissemination tasks, which may involve preparing event documents and managing social media content.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet at least one of the following qualifications: a degree or current enrollment in a graduate program in Economics or Laws; experience in international trade or development policies; proficiency in data management and analysis; or strong drafting and communication skills in English. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the internship and possess relevant software skills, such as proficiency in Excel, R, or Python.
Educational Background: Applicants should have an academic background in fields related to economics, international trade, development economics, or law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law. A graduate degree or enrollment in a graduate program is preferred, but candidates with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field may also apply. Relevant coursework in economics, data analysis, and international laws is highly valued.
Experience: While work experience is not mandatory for applying to the United Nations Internship Programme, candidates with prior experience in research, data analysis, or related fields will be given preference. Experience in international trade or development policies, as well as familiarity with regulatory analysis, will enhance an applicant's profile.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of additional official UN languages, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's application.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization if they are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand.
