Job Overview: The Junior Digital Agriculture Assistant will play a vital role in supporting project and program teams focused on digital agricultural systems and innovations. This position is essential for identifying and implementing digital agriculture and IoT (Internet of Things) solutions within FAO Bangladesh's portfolio. The assistant will work to ensure that modern agricultural innovations lead to improved productivity, reduced losses, and enhanced market competitiveness, particularly as Bangladesh approaches its graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. By connecting technical innovations with farmer capacity building and value chain infrastructure, the Junior Digital Agriculture Assistant will facilitate practical solutions and provide informed technical guidance to drive FAO Bangladesh's interventions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Junior Digital Agriculture Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including supporting project and program teams in piloting innovations and technologies related to digital agriculture. The assistant will ensure the timely delivery of project outputs and the achievement of objectives. Responsibilities include analyzing methodological frameworks and tools for evaluating digital agriculture readiness, contributing to project proposals and funding requests, identifying relevant start-ups and digital tools for integration, and facilitating knowledge exchange by documenting best practices and lessons learned. The assistant will also design and deliver capacity-development workshops, maintain partnerships with the private sector and research institutions, support project teams in evaluating digital agricultural solutions, and prepare technical reports and progress updates for the FAO Representation. Additional tasks may be assigned by the FAO Representative or Assistant FAO Representative (Programme).
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Physics, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), or a closely related field. A minimum of one year of relevant experience in IoT and digital agriculture is required. Candidates must also have a working knowledge of English at Level C and must be nationals of Bangladesh. FAO core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing are essential for this role. Technical skills in digital technologies relevant to agriculture and the ability to work with rural communities to design solutions are also necessary.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Applied Physics, Computer Science, or Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Candidates must have their educational qualifications recognized by institutions accredited in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: The role requires at least one year of relevant experience in the field of IoT and digital agriculture. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to work effectively in agricultural settings and with digital technologies.
Languages: A working knowledge of English (Level C) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not specified as a requirement.
