Job Overview: The Programme Analyst (Social Work) will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Periferia Viva – Maré Project in partnership with the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. This position involves providing technical support in the preparation of community assessment reports and facilitating participatory methodologies for community consultations and public space co-design workshops. The analyst will work closely with UN-Habitat’s operational and technical teams to ensure that community perspectives are integrated into project planning and implementation. The role requires a proactive approach to managing project activities, ensuring that objectives are met within set deadlines and budgets, and maintaining effective communication with local partners and stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Analyst (Social Work) will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including: 1) Providing technical advice and support for the execution of project activities. 2) Coordinating the overall implementation of the project’s work programme, including the development and approval of activities. 3) Maintaining communication with local partners, including government entities and civil society organizations. 4) Performing technical, administrative, and management tasks to ensure project objectives are met. 5) Supporting capacity building and development initiatives. 6) Managing data collection, analysis, and urban indicators. 7) Assisting in public policy development and strategic planning. 8) Facilitating social mobilization and community participation. 9) Overseeing construction management and project funding. 10) Advocating for effective partnerships and monitoring project progress. 11) Documenting meetings and preparing reports for various stakeholders. 12) Participating in missions and completing required training courses, including security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security training.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or related fields. A postgraduate degree in Social Work or Social Sciences is required, or alternatively, four additional years of relevant experience beyond the basic requirement. Candidates should have a minimum of six years of experience in relevant fields, particularly in project management within vulnerable communities. Experience in the public sector and familiarity with the United Nations system is desirable. Strong computer skills and proficiency in project management methodologies are also required.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field. A postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu) in Social Work or Social Sciences is essential, or candidates may substitute this requirement with four additional years of relevant experience in the field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of six years of professional experience in social work or related fields. Candidates should have experience in project management, particularly in public projects and working with vulnerable communities in Rio de Janeiro. Experience in coordinating fieldwork in the social sector is desirable, as is previous work experience with the United Nations.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary working language in Brazil. Additionally, candidates should have a working knowledge of English and French, which are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Spanish is also beneficial, given that it is the working language of the Regional Office.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is expected to last for three months. The consultant will receive a monthly allowance upon approval of activity reports by the Head of Brazil Office. The appointment is on a local basis, and only Brazilian nationals or candidates with a permanent visa in Brazil may apply. The contract's extension is contingent upon the availability of funds and performance.
