Job Overview:
The Associate Project Officer (P-2) position is integral to the operational coordination of the EU4Ocean Platform, a flagship initiative launched by the European Commission to enhance ocean literacy across Europe. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Senior Programme Officer at UNESCO and will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the Coalition’s components, which include Youth4Ocean, the Network of European Blue Schools, and the EU4Ocean Platform. The role involves ensuring effective communication and visibility of the project, assisting in the day-to-day management of project activities, and fostering collaboration among various stakeholders. The position requires a proactive approach to project management, with a focus on achieving sustainable ocean management through education and community engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Project Officer include:
  • EU4Ocean Platform Management: Supporting operational coordination, organizing online meetings and training sessions, maintaining records of activities, and liaising with experts and stakeholders.
  • Communication and Visibility: Implementing the Communication Plan, drafting newsletters and social media content, and ensuring alignment with UNESCO guidelines.
  • Support to Project Implementation: Organizing capacity-building activities, providing logistical support for events, and coordinating with external contributors.
  • Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation: Collecting data for performance indicators, drafting reports for donors, and maintaining project documentation.
  • Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement: Communicating with stakeholders, supporting outreach to new members, and contributing to synergies with other initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in marine science, environmental studies, sustainable development, international relations, communication, education, or a related field. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of project coordination and stakeholder engagement, along with excellent communication skills. Additionally, proficiency in digital communication tools and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree, specifically a Master’s degree or equivalent, in fields such as marine science, environmental studies, sustainable development, international relations, communication, education, or related disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of ocean literacy and sustainable development initiatives.

Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible professional experience in project coordination, communication, or stakeholder engagement is required. Candidates should have experience in organizing events, webinars, or training activities, demonstrating their ability to manage projects effectively and engage with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of French and other official UN languages (such as Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, or Russian) is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a multilingual environment.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is a project appointment with a duration of 1 year, which may be extended subject to the availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The position is open to both internal and external candidates. UNESCO offers a competitive salary, with the approximate annual starting salary for this post being USD 73,70
