Job Overview: The Project Coordinator will manage, supervise, and coordinate the implementation of the programme aimed at strengthening the sustainable and inclusive management of the marine protected area of Grand Bereby, which is recognized as particularly important for the conservation of biodiversity in Côte d’Ivoire. This role involves reviewing all project documents, drafting budgets and work plans, and liaising with UNEP, government agencies, programme partners, and NGOs to ensure effective coordination of activities. The coordinator will also organize National Steering Committee meetings, draft various reports including the Project Implementation Review (PIR) and co-financing reports, and support regular monitoring of implementing partner performances. The position requires participation in field visits to monitor programme sites and track indicators, measuring project progress and performance indicators, and leading the timely submission of quality deliverables such as Progress Update Reports and risk matrices. Additionally, the coordinator will ensure the development and implementation of an effective programme and financial monitoring and evaluation system that meets donor requirements, while also leading an effective communications strategy and maintaining strong relations with stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage, supervise, and coordinate the implementation of the programme Strengthening the Sustainable and inclusive management of the marine protected area of Grand Bereby.
Review all project documents and draft a budget and work planning.
Liaise with UNEP, government agencies, programme partners, and NGOs for effective coordination of activities.
Organize National Steering Committee meetings.
Draft Project Implementation Review (PIR) report.
Draft co-financing report, including supporting evidence for in-kind co-finance.
Support and carry out regular monitoring of implementing partner performances and verify the implementation status of the programme and the progress towards reaching set programme targets.
Participate in and monitor the programme sites field visits and indicators tracking.
Measure the programme project progress and performance indicators. 1
Lead the timely submission of quality and complete key deliverables including but not limited to Progress Update Reports, quarterly reviews, pulse checks, and risk matrix. 1
Ensure the development and implementation of an effective programme and financial monitoring and evaluation system meeting donor requirements. 1
Lead an effective communications strategy and ensure effective relations with stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Oceanography, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Biology, or a related field is required. A first university degree in related fields with a combination of two (2) years of professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. A minimum of two (2) years of professional working experience in the field of project management in connection with marine and coastal biodiversity, the environment, sustainable development, or other related disciplines is required. Relevant experience in developing, implementing, and/or planning cooperation projects with international donors is required. Experience on issues related to biodiversity management, marine protected areas, climate change, multilateral environmental agreements, and other related areas is required. Team coordination skills, including in a complex, multi-stakeholder and multi-donor environments, are required. Experience in communication and advocacy is desirable. Knowledge of the UN system is desirable. Knowledge of the Abidjan Convention is desirable.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Oceanography, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Biology, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first university degree in related fields with a combination of two (2) years of professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience in programme management and implementation is required. Additionally, a minimum of two (2) years of professional working experience in the field of project management related to marine and coastal biodiversity, the environment, or sustainable development is necessary. Relevant experience in developing and implementing cooperation projects with international donors is also required.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English and French is required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of any other UN language is desirable.
