Job Overview:
The Scripting and Data Processing Consultant role is designed to enhance the capacity of the Audience and Market Insights (AMI) unit at UNICEF. This position focuses on conducting effective quantitative research by leveraging self-serve quantitative survey scripting platforms. The consultant will be responsible for scripting surveys, coordinating translations, managing survey fielding with panel vendors, ensuring data quality control, and performing basic data processing tasks such as weighting and tabulations. The consultant will work under the supervision of the High-Value Insights Manager and will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF’s flagship and ad hoc research projects, enabling evidence-based strategic decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Program and script surveys using UNICEF's self-serve quantitative survey scripting platform tools.
  • Liaise with local markets or agencies to coordinate the translation of questionnaires, ensuring accurate implementation in the tool.
  • Conduct thorough link checks to verify functionality, routing, translations, and survey logic before launch.
  • Coordinate with panel vendors to manage fieldwork, monitor progress, and ensure timely data delivery.
  • Conduct rigorous data quality checks, identifying and flagging issues such as straight-liners, speeders, AI-generated responses, and other poor-quality data.
  • Execute data processing tasks, including weighting, creation of nets, and preparation of summary tables in Excel or other tools.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of technical setups, survey versions, and data cleaning decisions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in cultural studies, communications, psychology, marketing, political studies, development studies, statistics, data science, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in survey programming and technical research support, familiarity with Qualtrics, and demonstrated expertise in scripting complex surveys and multilingual survey deployment. Strong skills in data quality control and processing, as well as proficiency in Excel and data cleaning workflows, are essential. Experience with advanced statistical analytics and data science is considered an asset. Excellent communication skills in English are mandatory, and knowledge of other UN languages is advantageous.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as cultural studies, communications, psychology, marketing, political studies, development studies, statistics, or data science is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) may be accepted with additional relevant experience.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of hands-on experience in survey programming and technical research support is required. Candidates should have familiarity with Qualtrics and demonstrated expertise in scripting complex surveys, routing logic, and multilingual survey deployment. Experience in liaising with fieldwork vendors and managing translations is also necessary, along with strong skills in data quality control and processing.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of other UN languages is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration in a diverse work environment.

Additional Notes:
The consultant will be engaged under a consultancy or individual contract and will not be considered a staff member under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies. Payment will be based on the submission of agreed deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if deliverables do not meet required standards or are submitted late. Selected candidates must ensure their visa and health insurance are valid for the contract duration. They must also confirm their fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) if applicable.
