Job Overview: The Senior Public Health Associate position is crucial for the effective implementation, coordination, and monitoring of UNHCR’s public health interventions across Sudan. The role focuses on ensuring that refugees, asylum seekers, and host communities have sustained access to essential and life-saving health services. The incumbent will strengthen primary and secondary healthcare delivery, reproductive health, nutrition, mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (MHPSS) services, disease surveillance, and outbreak response. Key outputs include timely assessment and analytical reports, partner monitoring, and effective coordination of medical supply requests. The position requires a proactive approach to program planning, partner capacity building, and emergency health response, ensuring alignment with UNHCR public health standards and international guidelines. The Senior Public Health Associate will also participate in coordination forums, conduct field missions, and engage in ongoing emergency preparedness activities, ultimately aiming to improve health service quality and community engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Public Health Associate will be responsible for a variety of key duties, including: supporting the implementation of public health programs with partners and health authorities; contributing to public health programming that enhances refugee inclusion; participating in emergency responses to new refugee influxes and disease outbreaks; collecting and analyzing information for assessments; collaborating with program units on planning and monitoring; ensuring the proper use of the UNHCR Health Information System; supporting capacity strengthening of partners; managing risks and escalating concerns; and ensuring community engagement in health programming. The role also involves monitoring compliance with UNHCR Public Health Administrative Instructions and standard operating procedures, as well as performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 2 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Essential qualifications include certificates in Nursing, Public Health, or Epidemiology. Relevant job experience is essential, including managing health projects, understanding health systems, data collection and analysis, and experience working with refugees or in emergency settings. Desirable qualifications include experience in public health emergency preparedness, humanitarian settings, coordination, and health information systems. Excellent writing and reporting skills in English are also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma with 4 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 2 years of relevant experience. Candidates should have certifications in Nursing, Public Health, or Epidemiology, which are essential for the role.
